JBWere, a leading provider of investment management and philanthropic impact services amongst private clients and in the for-purpose sector, is delighted to announce that Dr William McInerney has joined JBWere New Zealand as Researcher, Philanthropic Services.
William’s appointment rounds out our dynamic and multi-faceted For Purpose team of four as he joins forces with senior advisers Matthew Williams, Anne Rodda and John Morrow.
The Researcher role works collaboratively with our JBWere Australian colleagues on sector wide research, as well as applied practical resources that support governance, impact measurement, and strategic planning for the For Purpose sector. William will be driving a wide range of research projects and packaging the findings to share with our clients, and the broader sector.
William’s international background and experience is broad reaching: his roots are in North Carolina, USA leading a Peace and Arts Education Not-for-Profit. His academic record includes a Bachelors in Peace, War and Defence, his Masters was in Conflict Resolution as a Rotary Peace Fellow, and his PhD from University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar was in Education at Queens’ College.
For the last 15 years, William has worked as a researcher and project manager in education, peacebuilding, development, gender equality, public health and the arts – always mission-driven and with the tools and experience to understand complex problems by turning data and ideas into evidence-informed action.
William brings to the team a depth of sector knowledge, intellectual rigor and strong communication skills. At his core, William is a storyteller who has a proven track record explaining and expressing dense material in approachable ways. He is a systematic and disciplined researcher that is highly adept at translating ideas and data into impactful, evidence-based publications.
After living and working in the USA, UK and the Pacific, William has moved with his New Zealand wife to Tāmaki Makaurau and is committed to building a life as a Kiwi. His appointment at JBWere NZ as Researcher, Philanthropic Services, rounds out our local ability to deliver high-trust, strategic advice insights and thought leadership to clients and to our For Purpose sector.
This appointment builds on the continued growth of JBWere’s Philanthropic Services and Family Advisory platform and the work of John Morrow, Head of Philanthropic Services, who has led the firm’s offering in New Zealand since 2020. John said:
“William has a breadth of high-level international experiences, supported by a unique blend of skills in systematic disciplined research and narrative driven storytelling to shape social change that will benefit our work with our clients, and in extending our public engagements. We are looking forward to him leading our evidence-based publications. He is genuinely interested in people, different cultures and in meeting challenges with sensitivity and respect. He is committed to making a life for himself and his wife in Aotearoa New Zealand and is positively embracing the challenges relocation brings.”
The New Zealand based team delivers sector-leading support to for-purpose and private clients in governance, impact strategy, capital deployment, and long-term stewardship of designated funds and philanthropic wealth.
The role also collaborates trans-Tasman with our colleagues at JBWere Australia’s acclaimed Family Advisory and Philanthropic Services Team, as well as with colleagues across the FirstCape Group, extending insights and influence for clients committed to lasting, positive change.
