John Morrow

Head of Philanthropic Services

John joined JBWere's Philanthropic Services Team in January 2020. His work includes the design and execution of giving strategies and impact in investments, as well as providing tailored insights from our research and next practices.

In partnership with JBWere advisers, John supports organisations in strengthening their governance, reviewing their mission, solving high value strategic issues.

He also serves JBWere private clients, individuals and families, in advising on philanthropy, and supporting more widely generosity and philanthropic practices in New Zealand. John's expertise includes advising on the establishment and structure of significant fundraising and granting foundations.

John is a former banker and lawyer who has worked with charities, as well as diverse boards, organisations and individuals in the wider for-purpose sector, on their sustainability journeys and in contributing towards positive social and environmental impact for 24 years.  

He co-authored the 2021 New Zealand Cause Report, the inaugural 2022 New Zealand Corporate Support Report, which looks at local corporate generosity and community investment, and Annual Giving 2025. Most recently he contributed to the 2025 New Zealand Bequest Report, and authored the Governance for Endowed Bequests whitepaper, and the firm’s submission to the IRD on the proposed taxing of charities.
